TARTAN TIDINGS | A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS TREE STYLING TIPS
As former visual merchandisers, we have decorated hundreds of Christmas trees and picked up many tips and tricks along the way. Use these tips and tricks to decorate your own Christmas tree.

Start with a Theme for Cohesion | Decorate with intention by creating a theme. Color and subject matter are a great place to start. We wanted a classic look, so we decided to go with red and white, and then added in a traditional pattern with the tartan.
Tip | Attach the garland with wire at anchor points on the tree for easy installation the next year. This is what the tree looks like when we pulled it out of storage.
Tip | Change the curtains from blue to red to really enhance the theme and make a full Christmas story.
Build Your Base | Add filler balls. Its is important to set the background elements first to allow the hero ornaments to pop!
Tip | Nestle the filler ornaments in the core of the tree. We alternated between matte finish and sparkle finish for reflection and depth.
Tip | Scale the filler ornaments so the larger balls are on the bottom and the smaller balls are on the top of the tree for best proportions.
Develop Composition | We love these icicles and wanted them to shine so we placed them on the anchor points of the garland. This created a pattern of repetition, adding balance to the tree.
Mix Textures | Mixing a wide variety of texture always makes your display more interesting. Here we have fluffy reindeers, sweater adorned balls, spiky woodland creatures, frosty icicles and 3D stars. All are tied together through our theme and color story.
Bring it to Life | Our favorite and final step, add life through foliage. Red berry bursts were stuck in the tree to infuse energy.
Finishing Touches | Next to the tree we staged an adorable large fluffy reindeer and cozy tartan blanket on the chair. These details are what takes your Christmas decor to the next level.
