TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CREATING YOUR OWN SPOOKY SHELVES

  1. Start with a Theme for Cohesion | For our spooky bookcase, we jumped off with a frightening skeleton theme with skulls, bones, anatomy drawings, and a severed hand to anchor the look. We also stuck to a classic black, cream and flesh tone color story that you will see woven throughout each shelf.

  2. Develop Composition | To guide the eye, we placed the tallest objects in the middle of each shelf, gradually fanning out to lower pieces. Halloween books were oriented differently on each shelf to add variety. By equally dispersing color and balancing materials it all allows your eye to bounce around each shelf to see all the fun details.

Hot tip - try turning your books backward for a cleaner, more uniform look. It’s an easy trick that works every time!

  3. Mix Textures | Incorporate different textures to add visual interest. Shiny glass and eyeballs contrast with the matte finishes of the bones and paper, finished with webs creating a layered, tactile experience.

  4. Bring it to Life | Always introduce something natural to make the setup feel organic. The moss and dried baby’s breath helped breathe life into the otherwise spooky scene.
